The Alliance for Christian Media and the Day1 ministry hosted their annual benefit dinner last week at the Piedmont Driving Club in Midtown.

This year’s event — emceed by WSB’s Scott Slade — honored leaders in the Atlanta community who are well known for their commitment to the good of the community, but who may have not been recognized for their deep commitment to their church and the religious community. Representatives from each of the participating denominations on Day1 were recognized. The event supported the ministry of Day1 (formerly The Protestant Hour).

This year’s honorees were: Madeline Adams and her husband, Howell Adams Jr., former CEO of Georgia Trane; Bill Bolling, executive director of the Atlanta Community Food Bank; S. Truett Cathy, founder and CEO of Chick-fil-A; Sally and Paul Rosser, founder of Justice Systems and retired chair of Rosser International Inc., respectively; Nancy Gordy Simms, president of The Varsity Restaurants; and Andrew Young, former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, Congressman and Atlanta mayor.

The event also celebrated the 65th anniversary of Day1 with a special presentation by the Rev. Thomas Lane Butts. In 1945 leaders of several major denominations and church-related colleges and seminaries came together with the goal of spreading God’s love and justice through radio. Every week since then, Day1 has presented sermons from the most accomplished preachers from across America. The organization continues to work together with preachers, churches and denominations to share God’s word on the radio and online — bringing faith and hope to hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
