Daisy, ducklings back at Lovett
Staff / Nathan Self
Sarah Lipkin of the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine's Wildlife Treatment Center holds a duck as Amy Yanke clips the tag from the duck's ankle to be released into the pond at the Lovett School after its rehabilitation in Athens.

Daisy, the Lovett School's resident mallard duck and unofficial mascot, and her nine ducklings are back on the Buckhead private school's campus.

The ducks were released back into the school's pond Friday morning after they spent nearly two months at the University of Georgia School of Veterinary Medicine's Wildlife Treatment Center in Athens to heal from a goose attack on campus. The goose broke Daisy's leg and killed one duckling. Daisy underwent five hours of surgery with 13 specialists. Students and parents raised money for the ducks' treatment and "adopted" the ducklings.

Daisy flew off before photographers could get a photo of her, but she later returned to the pond to be with her ducklings.
