The Lovett girls’ basketball team is having a tremendous season, and while star guard Tatiana Jackson may headline the squad, Christen Johnson is vital to its success.
Johnson, the starting center for head coach Liz Kennedy’s team, averages nine points, 10 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 1.5 steals each game.
“We would not be successful without Chris,” Kennedy said. “She gives us so much on the floor in points and rebounds but more importantly hustle.”
The Lions were 18-8 through Feb. 18 and entered the Region 6-AA tournament as the third seed behind Greater Atlanta Christian and Buford.
Kennedy said that one of the better aspects of Johnson’s game is her relentlessness.
“Her intensity drives this team and because of this she is becoming a leader,” she said. “It’s not just the games; it is each and every day in practice.
“She maintains a focus for the team that forces us to use each practice to become our best.”
Off of the court, Kennedy said the sophomore knows how to have a good time and keep things light for the rest of the team.
“Chris has a great personality that keeps it fun every day for the team,” she said.
